The bus driver - standing in the shelter – has been allowed to wear non-uniform shorts. The Nottingham area recorded an official temperature just under 40C (39.8C) at around the time this picture was taken. This beat the previous record from 2019 by nearly 5C. The record was confirmed at Watnall weather station, less than 3 miles from Bulwell. Elsewhere in Nottinghamshire the temperature peaked at 40.1C. It was probably slightly hotter here in the tarmac environment of the bus station.
