A rather unusual construction dating from around 1829; the crescent-shaped footbridge is cantilevered out from the southern side of the lock in such a way that it can be used to cross the lock, but allow a towrope (horse to boat) to pass beneath it as a boat negotiated the lock. The lock and bridge were collectively Grade II listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101342644-bottom-lock-and-attached-cantilever-footbridge-factory-locks-approximately-50-meters-north-of-furnace-parade-birmingham-canal-birmingham-level-tipton-green-ward#.Yshhx3bMLIU & https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1342644 in 1987.
