Renamed Tranmer House in honour of Annie Tranmer who gave the Sutton Hoo site to the National Trust after her death in 1998. The house was built in 1910. It had been the home of Frank and Edith Pretty who bought it in 1926. It was Edith Pretty who employed archaeologist, Basil Brown to explore the burial mounds on her land in the late 1930s revealing the historic site.
