Statue in Oliver Cromwell

This statue of Lord Protector, Oliver Cromwell was sculpted by F. W. Pomeroy. It was originally planned in 1899, marking the 300th anniversary of Cromwell's birth in Huntingdon. Victorian Huntingdon was very much a Royalist and Church of England town and failed to raise the money required to fund the statue. St Ives, took up the opportunity and the nonconformist town was able to raise the money for the statue; it was unveiled in October 1901.
