I often feel Livingston is underrated. Due to it being a very planned and structured place, with several areas of now very dated housing, the fact that it still retains a very 'country' feel in the gaps between everything often gets overlooked. This is a case in point. The domed building ahead is a multi-storey car park attached to the West end of the Westernmost of Livingston's vast shopping complexes that, although situated at the town's Southern end, are basically thought of as it centre, due to it not really having any proper centre in the way of a normal town. (In fact, the original shopping centre, now subsumed into today's far bigger affair was simply called 'Livingston Centre'.) Ten years ago all of this verge would have been mown. Whilst I'm quite sure that like all councils across Britain, West Lothian Council will claim they let most of the land run wild for the environmental benefit of pollinating insects, as opposed to simply saving money, it is irrelevant, due to it being a far more pleasant place to walk.
