On the wall of the Former London School of Medicine for Women, renamed the London (Royal Free Hospital) School of Medicine for Women in 1896. Part of the Royal Free Hospital, which was founded in 1828 to provide free healthcare to those unable to afford treatment. The honorific 'Royal' was granted by Queen Victoria in 1837 after work with cholera patients. Now the Hunter Street Medical Centre. The blue plaque celebrates Winifred Cullis, the first woman to hold a UK chair in Physiology, and head of the medical school here.
