This symbolic stone dated 1752 marks the grave of a collier. The tools shown are a pickaxe, wedges, a straight tined pickaxe, and a large hammer. A straight tined pickaxe was used for working in confined areas such as narrow coal seams. The skull and hourglass are emblems of mortality.
