These abandoned and derelict buildings are situated in a field at the top of Jawbone Hill, close to the junction of Lane Head and Skew Hill roads, and adjacent to the 'new' Grenoside Crematorium. They were erected during the 1939 - 45 War and were part of an area used as an Anti-Aircraft Battery or Searchlight Unit. The site, now occupied by the Crematorium, has been confirmed as a Munitions Storage Depot. Nowadays, you can often see the 'local' horses standing in the shelter ... perhaps dreaming that they are in the starting gates at Doncaster Racecourse! For more information ... see ... Image Image
