The current private road was once the main road to Maresfield that skirted the western side of Maresfield Park then turned east to run down what today is a residential road called The Drive. It was replaced sometime between 1825-1840 by a new route that ran around the northern side of the park via Straight Half Mile and Horney Common Road. The straight nature of the road owes its origins to the enclosure of Horney Common. The houses currently on the private drive all date after World War Two.
