One of the 615 milestones set up by the newly formed West Riding County Council in 1893/94 on many routes throughout the old West Riding. Over half are still in situ. They were set up with a 15-16cm deep backing stone. This milestone may have lost the backing stone or it is built into the wall. They were originally painted blue but soon reverted to white with black lettering. Many of the castings have the name of the foundry on the bevel but the ones on this route haven't. It was known to have been painted in 2007.
