Crenellated Wall

The castellation of this garden wall overlooking East Bridge in Colchester was not designed for decoration. This was part of the WW2 defences of the Eastern Command Line. This was a series of pillboxes, gun emplacements, tank traps and natural defences such as rivers designed to slow an advancing army. The Command line was also known as the Image Colchester’s Iron Age defence Image was also enlisted as a tank barrier.
