The inscription is somewhat eroded but seems to read "Take heed therefore how ye hear. This chapel opened March [6th?] 1808 with a text from Prov[erbs]..." The chapter and verse are illegible, but the opening line is actually from Luke 8.18: "Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have".
