This site was home to a tertiary referral rheumatology hospital with referral from as far afield as the Isle of Wight and Newcastle. There was also a separate branch hospital in another part of Droitwich. Unfortunately the rise of rheumatology as a district general hospital speciality with increasing numbers of consultants helped see off this specialist site. The use of new 'biological' treatments such as anti-TNFs has also made it more of an outpatient speciality with fewer and shorter hospital stays.
