A curious way of marking the entrance to a village. The grade II listing (list entry 1315587) dates the piers to the late 18th century with no further explanation. But the history of Goldsborough Hall on Wikipedia, quoting a more authoritative source, says that the estate became part of the Harewood estate during the 1750s, so it may date from around that time. York Road, beyond it, leads towards the present A59 into Knaresborough and Harrogate.
