Most of East Leake's shops are concentrated in this area including a cafe and a branch of Bird's Bakery. The latter is something of an East Midlands institution that can trace its origins to 1919 when three brothers from the Bird family purchased an existing small shop and bakery in Derby. The business now employs over 750 people.
