For some reason I get a feeling of "Monsieur Hulot's Holiday" about this one; perhaps it's the flags fluttering in the breeze and the rattling of the lanyards! Anyway this is the entrance to Erith Pier from just inside the Morrison's supermarket car park, between the former Chalk Farm Wharf to the left and Garden Wharf to the right. Morrison's themselves were instrumental in refurbishing the pier although it may have been a condition attached to their being allowed to develop the site for the supermarket. The hill in the distance is actually on the Essex side of the River Thames near Coldharbour.
