Butterbur is an unusual plant, it flowers in large pink spikes before the leaves appear; the remains of some flowers can be seen in the image. The leaves come and can grow to a remarkable size, much larger than those in the image which have only recently started. Other plants are in there too of course, ramsons and dog's mercury can both be seen.
