The mark was previously levelled at 98.591 feet above Liverpool Datum during the 1GL Longtown to Port Patrick Survey. The surveyor's description was 'No. 12. Bolt in North-east corner of North face of Gretna Green Parish Church ; 1.54 ft. above surface'
