The furthest north of mileposts remaining on the road from York to Thirsk. It is thought this style of post was cast at the Norby Foundry between 1835-60. ('Thirsk Past and Present' by Wyan and Foggitt 1980. Page 6). Although leaning slightly it may be fixed to a large stone or piece of concrete under soil level. It is on the raised verge on Ingramgate between the old main road and a service road in front of the houses. It is special because of the sheep & lamb, the drover and the crest which were on the original casting.
