The Grade II listing for these very fine buildings in the heart of the Lace Market, originally lace warehouses, begins "Dated 1855. By T C Hine of Nottingham for Richard Birkin, lace manufacturer. Built by Garland & Holland. Restored and converted c 1987. Red brick, with ashlar ground floor and dressings. Roof not visible behind rendered coped parapet. Italianate style."
