This is a view of Sheepcote Street looking to the northwest from the corner of Grosvenor Street West. At the far left can be seen the Ladywood electricity substation with the distinctive honeycomb pattern of its ventilated wall. To the right is the blue facade of the Crescent Theatre. Its website gives a brief history https://www.crescent-theatre.co.uk/history-of-the-crescent-theatre/ . The theatre company began with a Christmas party revue presented by city council workers in the staff canteen in 1923, and became the Municipal Players. Their first permanent home, long since demolished, was at the Crescent, hence the theatre's name. In the 1960s they built a theatre on Cumberland Street Image It was demolished to make way for the Brindleyplace development, and the current theatre was built to replace it.
