The Grade II listed https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1157878?section=official-list-entry library on Stricklandgate dates from 1908. Designed by local architect T.F.Pennington it is one of about 2,500 libraries worldwide which were financed by Andrew Carnegie, a Scottish-American steel magnate and philanthropist.
