The track is a public footpath leading from Outlands to Walton Hall. In the background the cluster of trees on Mount Barnard or St. Bernard’s Mount are the few remaining of what was once a substantial beech hanger; a prominent and attractive landmark feature in views from the Furness Peninsula and Morecambe Bay areas. Storms in the 1970s started the destruction and subsequent neglect has reduced this woodland feature to the last few stragglers.
