Former residence of Oscar Wilde. After his social disgrace, he went from here to Reading Gaol and his wife and children could not afford to remain. He never returned, and died in an hotel in Paris with the alleged last words, "This wallpaper is killing me". Whether this was the observation of an aesthete, or a comment on the toxic nature of the wall covering, we shall never know.
