See the introduction on Image The symbols on this section (lower row left to right) Conversion of St Paul (Jan 25) - a hatchet - "only appears on clog almanacks" Purification of the BVM (Feb 2) - a bowl St Matthias (Feb 25) - "a leg or hatchet" Annunciation of the BVM (Mar 25) - a heart, a common symbol for festivals involving Jesus' mother (right to left, middle row) St George (Apr 23) - a spear St Mark (Apr 25) - a fish St Philip & St James (May 1) - may blossom (obscured by a ceiling tie) St Barnabas (June 14) - a rake, this is the time of the hay harvest. There seems little connection between these symbols and traditional attributes of the saints.
