New John Street West is a section of the Birmingham ring road (the former middle ring road, some way out from the city centre). The large factory building is the former Brandauer works Image Beyond it, at the right hand side of the photo, can be seen Thornton House, a 13-storey block of 50 flats, one of three built on Summer Lane in the late 1960s by the Birmingham city authorities, in the area now known as Newtown.
