The Godiva Caf?, Lower Precinct, Coventry

This distinctive circular café, now a branch of Caffè Nero, was built in the Lower Precinct in 1957-58 to designs by the City Architect's Department. The café can be seen in its original context, the newly-built shopping precinct, in this 1960 photo from the archives of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) https://www.ribapix.com/upper-precinct-coventry-with-the-lady-godiva-cafe-in-the-background_riba76024 (which labels the location incorrectly as the Upper Precinct). The archiplusa site has some more evocative early photos here https://archiplusa.com/post/161348947881/lady-godiva-cafe-coventry-c1959 , in which it appears that the Godiva Café had in its ground floor 'stalk' a 'Peeping Tom' ice cream and hot dog counter.
