The view is taken from Sowden Beck Road, which the map labels as a "track" but which is a tarmac surface for quite a lot of the steep ascent from East Witton. However, it is not quite a public road, being merely a Byway (and which will degrade to just a bridleway when it crosses the parish boundary to the south). The village of East Witton below lies on the low hillsides overlooking the confluence of the River Cover with the Ure southeast of Middleham.
