The dyke is heaped stones rather than the usual type of stone dyke built by the careful placement of individual stones. A dyke on this alignment is shown on the First Edition OS map which was surveyed in 1872-73. An Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar stands on the end of the dyke by the roadside.
