This concrete and steel structure crossing the River Wharfe dates from 1961 when the dual carriageway A1 Wetherby by pass was opened. Now the by pass has been by passed by the A1(M) which crosses by a double bridge a little further east. The old bridge is now used by the A168 which begins some 2 miles further south and now runs as far as Northallerton.
