The closure was only for 10 metres, but it meant the Promenade was access only from Pleasant Street to Cocker Street, about 270 metres. Despite signs at each end diverting drivers off the promenade, some chose to ignore them. During the few days I was at the hotel, I saw several vehicles bypass the closure by driving up on to the tram tracks! The closure also made it difficult for coach drivers picking people up from the hotel, because they had to reverse over 200 metres from Pleasant Street,
