The village of Edington can trace records of worship back to a church dedicated to St Michael in 1191, but which had suffered badly from deterioration. By the 1870s it was considered irreparable and funds of £1118.10s raised by benefactors to build anew. It was opened by the Bishop of Bath and Wells in 1879 and listed as a Grade II building in 1987.
