Nailsea's long history of coal mining and glass-making are recalled in the landscaping of what was a heavy industry site. The glassworks began in the early eighteenth century but closed in 1904 (one company was bought out by a rival, who left their factory to become derelict!). Given the state of the site and the difficulties of redevelopment, it is good to see some effort made to retain a few outlines. The semi-circular seating echoes the swing pits used to make large glass cylinders that formed plate glass.
