Route 429 did not last for long. It was an attempt to provide a fast service to Lingfield and other places in South Surrey by running directly from Purley to Godstone via the A22 instead of via Old Coulsdon and Caterham. But because of congestion on the A22 it was found that the time saved was minimal, so the route was discontinued. It was usually served by Leyland Nationals, as here.
