This photograph shows several interesting features. The single-deck bus on Route 414 is returning towards West Croydon, having come from Dorking. At one time, this route had stretched as far as Horsham, but after being cut back to Dorking for some years, has now disappeared completely. On the right is a closed shop which was once a branch of J. Sainsbury, but they had moved to new premises on the High Street some years previously. This new Sainsbury's has also now closed, after the completion of the huge Tesco's, seen under construction in the left background on an old waterworks site. The road layout here has been substantially changed since this photograph.
