Associated British Cinemas Ltd with architect, William R Glen had the Savoy Cinema constructed by the Lincoln firm of William Wright and Son in 1936. Presumably at the same time they built six lockup shops, three either side of the cinema. Prior to the redevelopment of the area, that started building in January 1990, the Co-op had at least one of the units immediately east of cinema. As soon as it was able the bank relocated here to newly built premises. As many bank branches, it suffered from increased on-line banking and lack of support, officially closing its doors at 1.30pm on Thursday, May 24 2018. Around mid-2019 at least part of the building was occupied by ‘Savers’ who had previously closed its Lincoln store in July 2017 unable renew its lease in Sincil Street.
