Highland Country L869 is just starting from Thurso on the 30 mile route along the north coast of Caithness to Bettyhill. It is a Leyland Leopard with Alexander bodywork, new to Alexander (Fife) in 1977, so it was already ell over 20 years old. Second hand buses of some age were a feature of this part of Scotland, even in the fleets of the larger operators. At this period Highland Country was part of the Rapsons group, having been through a series of ownerships following the demise of Highland Omnibuses as a result privatisation in 1986.The Caithness operations has since become part of the Stagecoach group.
