Back in the summer of 1983 this was the home of Brummagem Boats Ltd, an independent family firm that, among other boating activities, ran a sizeable hire fleet. Given that the canals around central Birmingham were in a very run down condition in those days, it was a surprisingly successful business although it no longer exists. Most of the boats had names beginning with 'B' but Kalliope, the oldest in the fleet at the time, was an exception.
