Moss-grown, fallen tree trunks lie close to the well used path on the south side of the River Swale. The arrangement of a number of the trunks shows that they've been gathered together to an extent, but at least they've been left on the woodland floor and not removed for the sake of 'tidiness'. Perhaps they've been left due to the difficulty of removing them but hopefully they remain so that they'll rot down in the natural way, so returning nutrients to the soil.
