The sign is located on Stalham Road just outside the village. A lifeboat in heavy seas is depicted on the sign, to illustrate the proud history of the men who manned the independent lifeboats and the lives saved and the cost. The lives saved are listed on five large boards in the church. On the spandrels are fish representing the fishing boats which went out whatever the weather to bring in the harvest from the sea. On the crest are more fish and a wheat sheaf because Sea Palling also has an agricultural heritage. The key is probably representative of the large church key.
