The Woking Comrades of the Great War proposed to build a club at their meeting on 27 February 1920. There were originally two inscribed stones flanking the door with the inscription: (left side) In memory of our comrades who fell in the Great War 1914-1918. This stone was laid by Colonel the Rt Hon The Earl of Onslow OBE on 3rd July 1926. (Right side) In honour of those who returned from the Great War 1914-1918. This stone was laid by Major A C Watkins, President 3rd July 1926. At the time of its opening it came under the responsibility of the British Legion Club. Sealed bottles containing the unveiling programme, names of the committee and officers and coins were placed under each of the inscribed stones. The building was demolished in March 2006 and in its place a small development of private apartments named Jarman Court was erected.
