This moated site was previously occupied by Bocking Hall, which became Crowfield Hall when the lord of the manor relocated from the initial Crowfield Hall site adjacent to Crowfield church 400 metres to the north-east. The hall on this site was demolished in 1829, and the 19th Century farmhouse 200 metres to the north-west now bears the name of Crowfield Hall.
