Seen on a gloomy winter's day, this is the driveway to Highbury (Hall) from the entrance lodge. It is accessible to the public, being now in Highbury Park. Built by Joseph Chamberlain, industrialist, reforming Birmingham Mayor and controversial national and imperial politician, Highbury was the family residence until his death in 1914. The grade II* listed house survives and with its estate forms one of Birmingham’s most important heritage assets and parks. It is hoped that they can be restored to something like their former glory and in 2019/20 the driveway was restored as part of a garden restoration and accessibility project.
