Tower built in c.1760 by German trader Theodore Jacobsen of nearby (but now long demolished) Lonesome Lodge, as part of his landscaping of the area. Above the window is a round plaque (just visible through the leaves) depicting an eagle above an inscription "Audax omnia perpeti" ("Boldness to endure everything").
