Old Sarum's outer ditch

On the western side of Old Sarum, looking down into the outer ditch (the one surrounding the Norman bailey, based on the original Iron Age hillfort ditch). The walkers and dog are on a public footpath the follows the top of the counter-scarp bank around the site. In the foreground are the exposed roots of one of the many beech trees on this side of the hill.
