The introduction of electric trains on the Preston to Blackpool line has led to some longer distance workings. Here, a fairly new 'Civity' electric unit (331019) departs from Kirkham & Wesham station with the 12.28 Blackpool North to Hazel Grove via Manchester - a journey of nearly 100km and over 100 minutes. Compare Image taken nearly sixty years earlier: although there are fewer tracks and trains, the stations has actually gained a platform for eastbound trains in recent years, allowing the two tracks of the island platform to be used independently by trains to Blackpool South and North.
