Originally part of the A8 re-alignment in the 1930s to bypass the towns of Holytown and Bellshill, the new road was part of improvements to the Edinburgh to Glasgow road that were completed in 1933. The road is now an access road to the industrial estate. Before the road was built Lauchope Colliery Pit No.2 was just behind where the new building on the right now stands and Lauchope Colliery Pit No.1 was on the left in front of where the W H Malcolm building now stands.
