In the days of sail Killough and Ardglass were busy commercial harbours. There were numerous ships wrecked in the vicinity. One such was the schooner “Minapia” which foundered off the point in 1836 with all hands lost. The first light was established here in 1844. In the 1880’s the tower was raised from 62 to 120 feet. The light was converted to electricity in 1981 and demanned the same year.
