A coat of arms on the entrance arch at Milton Court (see Image). The motto reads "Spero meliora" or "I aspire to greater things". This is the motto of the Moffat clan, but it is not clear what the connection is with Milton Court and particularly with Lachlan Mackintosh Rate who was presumably responsible for the arch as part of this rebuilding of Milton Court in the 1870s.
