The church of St Paul was founded in the mid nineteenth century but was badly damaged by fire. Admired architect Charles Hansom, who lived locally and had designed parts of Clifton College, was engaged to resurrect the church. Some parts, like the spire here, were strong enough to be retained. Most of the present church dates from 1867 and makes use of a lot of local stone. The main body now stands aside the original spire.
